5 Tools Every Homeowner Needs

Your beautiful new Trinity Falls home is built to last a lifetime but that doesn’t mean you won’t have home maintenance chores to do. Whether you are a first-time homeowner or you’ve owned a home for years, your new garage should be stocked with these five essential tools:

A Toolbox

There are a lot of ways to organize your tools, including peg boards, shelves and drawers, but for our money, a toolbox is one of the best ways to go. A toolbox — filled with essential items such as a hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, a flashlight, nails and screws — is a necessity for doing odd jobs around the house. And let’s face it, when you move in, you’re going to need something portable.

A Ladder

You may have fallen in love with the high ceilings in your new home but hanging curtains on those two-story windows will be difficult without a ladder. Make sure you choose a ladder that is the right height. For most homes, your best bet is an extension ladder 7 to 10 feet longer than the highest point it will rest against.

A Cordless Drill with Bit Set

Screwdrivers are good for putting up pictures and shelves, but a cordless drill is better. A sturdy cordless drill with a large bit set can cover any screw sinking or removal need and can drill holes through almost any material. When purchasing, look for a drill that offers a reversible option, variable drill speed and a large chuck (where the bit goes) size.

A Lawn Mower

Your new home comes with a new lawn and that lawn needs to be kept neat and trim. What type of mower you buy depends on the size of your lawn, whether it is flat or hilly and any landscaping considerations such as trees and flower beds. Most homeowners need a simple walk-behind mower. Gas walk-behind mowers deliver more power and a wider cutting swath, while electric mowers offer quieter operation and no emissions. If you have a small lawn, manual reel mowers are an economical way to get the job done.

An Air Compressor

This is definitely something you don’t think about until you need one but when you need it, it comes in handy. In addition to inflating tires, it can power a range of helpful tools. Need to clean the floor of your garage? Use your air blower. Ready to paint your new walls? It’s easy with a paint sprayer tool. An air finish nailer means the nail goes into the wall without your finger getting smashed in the process.
